A little information about me and this site. Who I am, where I come from, what inspires me and what I like to do. Who knows you might learn something new about me!

About Me

Born and raised on the mean streets of suburban Illinois, just outside of Chicago I was your average hell on wheels type kid. I then discovered art to keep me busy.

I have been painting and drawing for as long as I can remember. With very supportive parents, I was enrolled in art classes when I was in the 7th grade. I continued at the local art studio in our town until I graduated from High School in 1993 and decided to attend the The American Academy of Art in Chicago. Quite ironically I left the Academy as they moved towards computer graphics and I did not want anything to do with it. I just wanted to be a starving artist. I got a job as a baker at Great Harvest and continued there and continued painting with friends for the next 8 years.

Eureka, I have seen the light. In 1998 I moved up to Milwaukee to start over, go to school and get a grip on these crazy computers. I was amazed. Loved the freedom, loved the ease of creating art, loved the ever evolving web. I was spending my days dissecting the things that were happening on Designgraphik, Test Pilot Collective, Praystation and many others.

Graduating from the Milwaukee Area Technical College in the great month of December in the great year for designers of 2001, I could not find a job for the life of me, so I continued to make bread, create art and work both on canvas and now on the computer. I found a web design job almost two years later and here we are.

Site History

Removement was started in April of 2002, as my playground while I attended the Milwaukee Area Technical College getting my Visual Communication/Computer Graphic Degree.

Started as static HTML files, it was a pain in the ass to update. It remained that way for a while. Full pages consisting of cut up images, no text, text in images, it was a mess. Then in school we were taught Flash. Removement then became a flash based site. That was just as bad to update and maintain.

In mid to late 2003, in my desire for information I ran across Designing with Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman and was completely blown away. It changed the way I worked and viewed the web, and continues to inspire me to this day.
